The Renegades are a syndicate of prodigies—humans with extraordinary abilities—who emerged from the ruins of a crumbled society and established peace and order where chaos reigned. As champions of justice, they remain a symbol of hope and courage to everyone…except the villains they once overthrew.
Nova has a reason to hate the Renegades, and she is on a mission for vengeance. As she gets closer to her target, she meets Adrian, a Renegade boy who believes in justice—and in Nova. But Nova’s allegiance is to a villain who has the power to end them both.
Secret Identities. Extraordinary Powers. She wants vengeance. He wants justice.
It’s been quite a while since I gave a book five stars, but this book wholeheartedly deserves EVERY. SINGLE. FREAKING. STAR!! Ahhh I loved this so so so much and it was completely unexpected! I’m not overly into superheroes, so I didn’t anticipate loving Renegades, but it was just incredible honestly!
Our main character, Nova, experiences a huge traumatic event right at the start and my heart honestly broke for her! I was sobbing away whilst reading and felt every single gut wrenching moment. Nova was so easy to sympathize with and that’s what definitely connected me to her character and hooked me into the story, I was a gonner from the word go!
Nova literally takes no sh#t from anyone, she is super badass and I’m totally on her side. She is part of the group known as the Anarchists, whom are the villains of this story. Even though they are technically the bad guys, I couldn’t help rooting for them and really understood their side of the story.
Adrian is our second MC and I am totally in love with the boy! He’s everything you would want in a hero – kind, smart, determined, brave and it doesn’t hurt that he’s a total nerdy dream boat! Adrian is a Renegade, the heroes shall we say, and on the opposite side of Nova – though he doesn’t know it due to her secret identity. Adrian also has his own secrets, ones very close to the heart.
This book is ultimate superhero badass-ary from start to finish and I was totally blown away by it. The story was incredibly immersive, with some twists and turns along the way and an ending that shocked me to the core!
If you enjoy stories about superheroes and secret identities, or not since I’m not a huge fan, then you absolutely HAVE to pick this one up guys, you won’t regret it! I’m so excited for the sequel, why is it so far away!!
I would like to thank Macmillan publishing and Netgalley for sending the book my way in return for an honest review.
